Fishing at Santa Colomba Lake
• from 1st January 2023 to 1st January 2026, from Monday to Sunday 6am-0am
A mysterious alpine lake, located in the middle of the dense forests of Monte Argentario in the municipality of Civezzano, full of fish and many surprises. Discover Lake Santa Colomba!
The Piné Plateau and the Valle di Cembra offer hidden corners where real natural pearls can be found. One of these is a lake, whose name evokes rebirth or resurrection, in an unusual but remarkably beautiful alpine context. In winter it tends to freeze, giving its inhabitants some well-deserved rest. In summer, on the other hand, it wakes up and is coloured with many shades of green. Its forest generates wonderful reflections on the surface of the water giving unusual scenarios. We are talking about Lake Santa Colomba, a small and pretty stretch of water, an integral part of the Argentario Ecomuseum and a destination for many fishermen who go in search of trout, pikes and white fish.
Lake Santa Colomba and its features
It is an alpine lake that arises from springs located at about 1,000 meters above sea level, which give rise to a small natural basin in the ancient mining area of Argentario. Lake Santa Colomba also has shores that can be easily reached on foot, which can be traversed for almost its entire length. The climate, harsh in winter and cool in summer, has allowed the setting of numerous species such as brown and rainbow trout, pikes, tenches, shags, burrows, perch, sunshine perch and gannets. A plethora of species that make up a healthy ecosystem, also guaranteed by the presence of well-oxygenated waters and the total absence of pollution. Fish, moreover, insidious with different techniques, for the happiness of fishermen who can try their hand at crawling, trembling, English fishing, fixed rod fishing and, why not... even feeder fishing!
Fishing regulations for Lake Santa Colomba
Lake Santa Colomba is a lake that has salmonids and tends to freeze every year. Therefore, it is open from the first Sunday of April and closes on 31 October. The reference association that manages the lake is FALC, which also collaborates with FIPSAS in Trento. It not only deals with the concession of water, but also carries out regular sowing of adult trout (every 14 days). Therefore, the lake is closed on non-holiday Fridays. It is possible to fish on this lake with the annual FIPSAS or FALC permit, which costs € 25.00. You can retain up to 5 trout or 2 pikes but, of course, we recommend to practice the catch & release for the protection of the environment and for the respect of the fish. As for baits, both natural ones (camola, buggy, earthworm, corn, etc.) and artificial ones are allowed, as long as they are exclusively rubberized/silicone. Teaspoons, rapala, undulating and similar hard baits are prohibited. The bigatino is allowed as bait, up to a maximum of 50 grams. For grazing, on the other hand, you cannot exceed 500 grams per day.
If you have any doubts or concerns about the regulation, we suggest contacting FIPSAS Trento on 0461 421409 or Associazione Pescatori FALC on 348 7044491.
Fishing techniques at Lake Santa Colomba
To make a profitable and fun catch at Lake Santa Colomba, you have to decide whether to threaten trout, pikes or white fish. Usually, the best approach for the first fishing trip to the lake is the trout tremarella. It is more than enough to use a 4-metre rod, with a 2/6 gram or 3/8 gram action, armed with a size 2500/3000 reel. A 4/6 gram slide, a knot-saving bead, a triple swivel and a terminal of at least 120 centimeters will slide on the beam. The trout of the lake are enticed by the double trigger of the camoles, which guarantee maximum rotation. If the objective of the catch is white fish, also equip yourself with a fixed rod of 8 meters or an English rod of 3.90 meters. The fish is stationed both in the middle of the lake (scardles and cavedani) and on the shore (sharkfish and large scardles). The most suitable baits for hit fishing are always bigot, earthworm and corn. The lake will not fail to amaze you, showing you how interesting it can be to face a spot of stagnant water in Trentino, during a mid-summer afternoon, away from the heat of the torrid plains.
