Cimone

Terraced landscape, excellent wines and the flavours of rural cuisine

Cimone is a small village on the right bank of the Adige River located just above Aldeno, along the road to Garniga Terme. It is a scattered municipality made up of no less than 14 hamlets, which are the natural evolution of ancient "masi" (farmsteads) located on the slopes of Monte Bondone: Covelo is the main hamlet, dominated by the bell tower of the Church of San Rocco, as well as the municipal seat.

The rustic and sylvan culture of the place goes well with niche farms and a simple and straightforward agritourism offer, as well as the ancient and renowned wood craftsmanship. A climate that is cool in summer and mild in winter, combined with terracing and local stone walls and the proximity of the forest, makes the area perfect for the production of chardonnay and pinot noir grapes, both excellent bases for mountain bubbly, Trentino's classic method sparkling wine under the Trentodoc label.

Historically, the community of Cimone has been very closely linked to the Vallagarina and was part - together with the municipality of Aldeno - of the ancient administrative institution of the "Comun Comunale Lagarino" (from 110 to 1818), commemorated annually in turn by the municipalities that were part of it. Also part of the local tradition is the 'Barcarola', an event celebrated every 25 years to commemorate the Cimoneri who in the early 20th century were forced to emigrate to America in search of work.
