Historic building visible from the outside

Two wonderful sixteenth-century buildings that impress you with the beauty and originality of their facades, characterised by Renaissance frescoes that enhance their historical value.

Located in Piazza Duomo, these two 16th-century houses surprise you with the elaborate pictorial cycle of their facades. On the left side, the frescoes attributed to the painter Marcello Fogolino depict characters and myths from classical mythology: Geryon and the allegories of Fortune, Chance and Nemesis, as well as Damocles at the table of the tyrant Dionysius. The right side depicts the subjects of Virtue and Time, the Triumphs of Love, Apollo and Abundance. The Scale of Virtues is impressive, perfectly preserved in the centre of the composition. Classical figures assume considerable historical importance because they characterize an emblematic aspect of Renaissance culture as opposed to religious themes, prevalent especially in the Middle Ages.

STRENGTH

The historical importance of the frescoes and in particular of the perfectly preserved "staircase of virtue".
