Located in the basement of the Cathedral, the early Christian Basilica of San Vigilio is a veritable treasure chest.
The foundation, which took place in the fourth century A.D., is attributed to Vigilio, third bishop and patron of Trento, whose remains remained there for centuries. To make the visit even more evocative, visitors can find a new route enriched by videos, multimedia stations and headsets for immersive virtual reality.
A treasure that contains another: if you enter the imposing Romanesque cathedral of Trento, don't miss the opportunity to discover the basilica that hides in its basement. A series of steps takes you on a journey through time, up to this early Christian building, erected towards the end of the 4th century AD and subject to structural changes and additions over the following centuries that added sacelles and crypts. The particular type of funeral monument located in the centre of the vast hall - the famous "ark of San Vigilio" - has housed the remains of the patron saint of the city for centuries. This place of worship was rediscovered only about fifty years ago: today you can experience it at its best thanks to videos, multimedia stations and headsets for immersive virtual reality.
