Dürer - Buonconsiglio Castle

The Castello del Buonconsiglio chooses, not by chance, a great Nordic, "Albrecht Dürer", as the protagonist of the exhibition symbol of the Centenary of its transformation from princely residence to museum, which took place in 1924; the exhibition will be open from 6 July to 13 October 2024.

Dürer discovered Trento and Trentino in the years 1494-95, being fascinated by the landscapes and atmospheres of these places, capturing their essence in a famous series of watercolours. The Nuremberg area was attracted by a Principality where art and the arts were cultivated with great passion and where the Renaissance was declined in a completely original way by Trentino artists and "foreigners" who came there because they were attracted by the prestige and commissions of the prince-bishops' court and the economic elites.

"Dürer and the Renaissance in the Alps", from 6 July to 13 October, at Buonconsiglio, relives that journey and that magmatic, creative moment in the history of art in a land between the mountains. The exhibition, promoted by the Castello del Buonconsiglio museum, in collaboration with the University of Trento and the Superintendence for Cultural Heritage, is curated by Bernard Aikema, Laura Dal Prà, Giovanni Maria Sara, Claudio Salsi.

In the exhibition, Dürer's presence in Trentino is recalled by drawings, watercolours, engravings and paintings: the art of the great German did not go unnoticed but stimulated the artists active here to rethink their art.

Last admission to the Museum half anhour before closing time (a full visit takes at least 90 minutes)
