G7 - Artificial Intelligence - City of Trento
G7 summit on artificial intelligence on 15 March 2024 in the city of Trento, which will be an armoured city.
The Roman Idi, the Trentino AIdi: this is the date chosen for the G7 summit on artificial intelligence that will bring together ministers with delegation to innovation from Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America, as well as representatives of the European Union. Italy will be represented by the Under-Secretary for Technological Innovation and Digital Transition, Alessio Butti, who also has the specific delegation for artificial intelligence.
This was announced by Adolfo Urso, Minister of Business and Made in Italy, in recent days. Everything is very nice, but get ready for a field day, with very analogous inconveniences: armored cities, closed roads, prohibitions. The ministerial delegations, in fact, will not meet only at the Palace of the Province as had been assumed in recent weeks after a first series of inspections by officials of the Presidency of the Council, an eventuality that would have allowed to "shield" only the area of Piazza Dante.
Meetings and comparisons will also be held between Palazzo Thun and Palazzo Jeremiah, with the security device - which the police station is working on these days together with the government commissariat, the representatives of all law enforcement agencies and the Municipality and Province - which must therefore involve a good slice of the historic centre and neighbouring streets. We are only at the stage of studying what will be arranged in a month, but it is not difficult to assume that the entire area between via Dogana, via Pozzo, Portèla, via Prepositura, via Rosmini, via Prati, Piazza Duomo, via Belenzani, via Alfieri, via Vanetti and via Romagnosi (and everything inside) will be temporarily off limits. The security system that is being worked on is imposing, with hundreds of men who will guard the historic centre from the day before, with intensified controls along roads, motorways and railways from the beginning of the week.
The location of Trento was chosen not by chance: not only because of the presence of a world-class scientific centre that is internationally recognised, but also for logistical reasons: in the two previous days, in Verona, as part of the Italian presidency of the G7, a meeting will be organised with the ministers of industry in which policies and technologies dedicated to space will also be discussed.
This will be the first of the twenty meetings on the agenda for the ministerial summits planned by the Italian presidency, with Trento representing the second piece of a journey that will then continue with meetings in Milan to discuss transport (11-12-13 April), in Capri for the summit of Foreign Ministers (17-18-19 April).
In Trento, the summit aims "to harmonise the laws of the seven G7 countries on artificial intelligence, taking up the work done last year in Hiroshima where guiding principles and an international code of conduct for AI developers were established", explained Minister Urso.
