The old mill is on the move again

On the Piné Plateau, in 2018, an association of cereal growers was born composed of some people who want to recover history, traditions, the restoration of ancient sites and to resume ancient crops and ancient crafts.
In particular, in Prada, a town near Feud, next to the cultivation of small fruits, the golden fields of cereals stand out. Nearby there is an old mill of medieval origin which, after careful renovation, thanks to the tenacity of Mario and Enrico Moser, has returned to grinding flour and has also become an interesting museum.
The Moser brothers lead visitors into the almost thousand-year-old history of the old family business, which allows them to discover the secrets of the preparation of Pinetana flour produced with millstones built with stones from past mines on nearby Monte Costalta.
A small supply chain has also been set up to enhance this type of flour.
Pinetana flour is used by the pasta factory "La Casa della Pasta" in Baselga, the Pizzeria Aparsa in Montagnaga and the Panificio Ambrosi.

FUN FACT

The Prada mill, once called the Kovel mill, has been run for about three centuries by the Moser "Pressa" family of Feida. Ab immemorial belonged to the castle of Pergine, which gave it in feudal investiture for 11 years after the payment of the annual sum of two Meranesi, currency of the time. The investiture concerned the mill with two aqueducts and the related consortium rights. From the seventeenth century onwards, several heads of household from "pinaitre" families were invested in this property: from members of the Prada family, once Gardizzola from Gardizzola, then from the Zen family of Montagnaga and the De Cadrobbi family of Cadrobbi, finally from representatives of the Moser family called "Pressa" di Feida. A notarial deed attests that in 1786 Giovanni was legally invested as Leonardo Moser. In 1822 the mill building was moved and rebuilt in the position where it is currently located, because the original mill was destroyed due to a fire and later submerged by a flood of the Black River, as evidenced by the remains still partly visible, incorporated into another building. In 1847 the Kovel mill, with its rights, was redeemed by Giovanni Moser Pressa, who became its full owner. Since then the mill has always remained the property of the same Moser "Pressa" family. Renovated again by Costante and Bernardo Moser after the Second World War, it continued its activity until 1959.
