Air dominance-Genesis and reality of the Ca.3 bomber.

An exhibition held on the occasion of the Centenary of the Italian Air Force at the Gianni Caproni Air Force Museum in Mattarello from 21 April 2023 to 21 April 2024.

A story that illuminates the origins, developments and evolution (military, civil and sports) of the aircraft produced by Eng. Gianni Caproni between the Great War and the first post-war period.

The project is divided into an introductory part and five sections that address the theoretical evolution related to strategic bombing, on the brink of the Great War, and the technical and historical evolution related to Caproni aircraft.
After providing an initial overview, the second section of the exhibition highlights the internal debate in military circles on the doctrine and reality of air warfare in Italy. Below, the focus is on the technological development of the Caproni Ca.3 series (Ca.32, Ca.2, Ca.33) with a brief reference to the subsequent series (Ca.4 and Ca.5). The fourth section deals instead with the more purely military aspects, the use and operation of Caproni bombers during the First World War (1915-1918) until understanding the events related to the reconquest of Libya (1921-1931). The concluding section finally illuminates the post-war context and the conversion of Caproni aircraft for civil and sporting use. The exhibition is accompanied by 5 brief insights that enrich the cultural offer.

With the collaboration of the Historical Office of the Italian Air Force, the exhibition uses photographic images, infographics and historical videos, as well as important objects and works of art from the Caproni collection and the Italian War Museum.
