Looking for a fishy mountain lake where you can fish and spin? Discover Lake Serraia in Trentino!

In the heart of Trentino, on the Altopiano di Piné, in an exceptional natural environment, stands Lake Serraia. It is an alpine lake of glacial origin, located at about 1,000 meters above sea level, rich in fish and a destination for many fishing enthusiasts during spring, summer and especially autumn.

Lake Serraia
Its shape is similar to a drop of water, with a narrower northern part and a wider base. The village of Baselga di Piné develops at the base of the lake, while the rest of the body of water is surrounded by trees and interspersed with beaches accessible to all. The banks are very regular and can also be walked on foot with long walks, a backpack on your back and canes in your hand. In the northern part there is a biotope, within which fishing is prohibited (all is well signposted). The fish population consists mainly of pikes, rattlesnakes, tenches, burrows, eels, perch. In particular, Lake Serraia is famous for its large pikes, which can reach up to a metre in length!

Lake Fishing Regulations
The waters of Lake Serraia are under concession to the Trentino Amateur Fishermen's Association. Fishing, open all year round, is regulated by the possession of a daily permit, which can be bought even without the possession of a type B licence. It costs € 15.00, allows you to fish with a maximum of 2 rods and allows the use of natural bait (worms, bigatini, earthworms), artificial bait (minnow, undulating, spinnerbait, etc.) and live bait (squirrels and other small fish). There are also three important limitations to respect: 50 grams for fishing with bigatini; 500 grams for grazing; the surface of the lake must be free of ice for more than half. For further information or questions about the current regulation, please contact the APDT by email at info@apdt.it or by phone at 0461.930093.

Suggested equipment
The most common approach to Lake Serraia is spinning, both pike and perch. In this regard, the use of a two-piece barrel with a length between 2.40 and 2.70 metres with a rigid action, of at least 30 grams, is required. The tool must be combined with a reel of size 3000/4000, wound with braiding or nylon. The most suitable baits for catching exocides are hard baits: undulating, jerks, crankbaits, spinnerbaits. As an alternative to spinning, there is always room for classic pike fishing with live fish (scardola, sanguinerola or other minutaglia), or fixed rod fishing, English and Bolognese. It is recommended to practice catch and release, so have the utmost respect for the fish. In case of catching a large pike, avoid rubbing it, mouth gripping it, dragging it to the ground or using cloths. Instead, you need to equip yourself with long-nose pliers and a mouth opener: these tools will help in slamming the prey, saving unnecessary suffering before the deserved final release.
