Fishing on the Brusago River
• from 1st January 2023 to 1st January 2026, from Monday to Sunday 6am-11:30pm
Do you want to fish in the streams of Trentino rich in wild fish? Come and take two pitches on the Brusago River!
Trentino boasts a multitude of waters, both running and stagnant. In addition to rivers, streams and lakes, there are also a large number of mountain streams, with reduced flow but undisputed charm. They are often called "rio" and the Altopiano di Piné can offer one that constitutes an alternative fishing spot to the classic outings on the lake. Let's talk about the suggestive and adventurous Rio Brusago, which crosses the village of Brusago and plunges further down into the Avisio stream. A real paradise, everything to discover. A destination for those who like to confront small waters populated by "free-roaming" trout, as they say in the jargon of fishermen.
The Rio Brusago
The Rio Brusago rises from the mountains east of Bedollo, a municipality in the Piné Plateau. It alternates between steep and flat stretches down to the valley, where it flows into the Avisio. Its character varies depending on the altitude: higher up is a river with a very limited water flow; in the Brusago Valley it becomes a more important watercourse, almost on a par with a stream. In addition to changing the water supply, the Brusago River has different environments. In the upper section it is rather impervious, adventurous and rich in vegetation. Further downstream, always afterBrusago, it has a gentler profile, interrupted by a series of bridles that generate waterfalls and pools. In both sections it is populated by fairly "suspicious" light trout, with a particularly flamboyant livery, with well-defined physiognomies and fins in excellent health.
Brusago River Fishing Regulations
The entire course of the Rio Brusago is under concession to the APDT of Trento. The daily permit costs € 20.00 and possession of the type B licence is not required. With the same permit you can also fish in other nearby streams, such as the Avisio. The regulation provides for the use of non-sparking hooks. Both natural baits (camola and earthworm) and artificial baits (teaspoons and silicone) are allowed. The fisherman can catch up to 4 trout, with a length of more than 22 centimetres. However, we recommend that you always catch & release, both out of respect for the environment and to preserve Rio's fish population. The opening date is set for the first Sunday of April. The closure, on the other hand, is on 30 September. If you have any doubts about the regulation, please contact the APDT of Trento at the telephone number 0461 930093 or by email at info@apdt.it.
Spinning and touch fishing with the adjustable loom
The physiognomy of the Rio Brusago imposes the approach with techniques that allow launches in confined environments. Fly fishing may be affected, while spinning and logging are not limited. The most upstream stretch is the ideal place to fish for trout "to the touch", with a 5/7 metre remotely adjustable rod. The line must be composed of a bollard, a swivel and a terminal of a maximum of 15 centimetres. When spinning, on the other hand, we recommend using an ultra-lightweight two-piece, with a length of 1.80 metres and an action of up to 8/10 grams. This tool will allow you to tease the aggressiveness of trout by using artificial baits of size 2/3 with barbless hook.
