Garniga Terme

A small rural world immersed in nature: genuine hospitality and the culture of traditions. A sunny terrace from which to set off on walks and hikes, from the valley floor to Monte Cornetto on Monte Bondone, in an area rich in flora and fauna such as the Viote del Monte Bondone Integral Nature Reserve and the Viote Alpine Botanical Garden.

Garniga Terme, at an altitude of 800 metres on the eastern slopes of Monte Bondone, is a natural garden in a sunny position surrounded by forests and rocky peaks. A curious aspect is that the municipality starts at an altitude of 240 metres and reaches the 2100 metres of Cima Verde del Bondone, making it a strategic point for healthy panoramic walks, trekking excursions and mountain biking.

Exploring the hamlets of Garniga is a rural social experience, at the slow pace of an enveloping nature and discovering genuine local products. Just a few steps from the centre of the village, it is possible to reach an evocative panoramic viewpoint on the 'dos dei Nòzi', right where the ancient church of S. Osvaldo still dominates the valley: at night, the little illuminated church is visible from afar.

After the first settlers of Bavarian origin, some groups of German miners wanted to sound out the richness of the area: a resounding flop, because they found absolutely nothing, 'gar nichts' in German: it seems that this is the etymology of the name Garniga! The wealth of the place convinced settlers to remain in place as shepherds, farmers, woodcutters and hunters: the seven current hamlets of the village are the natural development of these farms/settlements. Garniga, although geographically close to Trento, did not have a carriageable road until 1956, and still today the images of farming and craftsmanship are vivid in the inhabitants of the village. Old roads and ancient paths form the backdrop to the traditional haymaking on the Bondone and the trades of the past, and are revived in some of the events organised by the village associations.

Highlights of Garniga Terme

A harmonious sun-kissed landscape and an impressive viewpoint from the Church of St Oswald. A delightful playground beside the picturesque pond. Always a welcome stop to taste and purchase the local farm's organic cheeses and the 'carne salada de Garniga'.
